Dare to Dream

So for some reason in the past week and a half, it seems like the topic of “Dream Jobs” has been the topic of discussion. I love that people especially around my age can still dream about their “Dream Job”, but my only question is:

What is holding you back from going after you dream job?

follow your dreams

I don’t know that I really have the right to ask that question, because I am not going after my dream job either. But don’t get me wrong, if I was a stay at home wife I would go for it again. Yes AGAIN! Once upon a time I was working my dream job on a part-time basis and interning on the weekends to learn from the real professionals in the industry. In this particular industry I could not just quite my day job, as I had to pay the bills some way. And its one of those industries that you need a big cushion of money to live on until you have enough clientele on a referral basis to keep you afloat.

What is my dream job you ask…Event Planner *spirit fingers* YAAAASSSS

I took the time to take some classes to learn as much as I could about what I dreamed of doing. I had to start somewhere. I am an Accredited Certified Event Planner. After getting my certification I sat down and wrote out a plan. I figured the best way to get started was to go out and find my first client. Who happened to be a new friend of mine. It was a small 5 year anniversary party, and it turned out to be an amazing classy and fabulous event. I knew that this was it all I wanted to do was plan great weddings and events. I figured that if I wanted to perfect my craft, I needed to learn from the best of the best in my city. So I did a great deal of research and applied for an internship at Unforgettable Events. I had a chance to learn from 2 of the most amazing women in the industry.

I know most of you want to know why I am no longer actively working my dream job. Let just say I had to choose between a full-time job with steady income and benefits or working my dream job that did not provide a steady stream of income at the point and time. And of course I had to make the grown up decision.

Don’t get me wrong, if I could do it all over again I would’ve followed my dream through. From time to time I have the chance to plan events for friends, but it’s not the same. In my personal opinion I would tell anyone to find a way to follow your dreams and stick with it.

Don’t be afraid to dream, and remember dream BIG.
